My great grandmother told me about a girl that she used to play with when she was a child. Her name was something like ‘Rita Borges’ and her family was Portuguese. Last year I found out that there was a family called Borges in the 1910 U.S. Federal Census on the same page as Mary and her family. They had a daughter called Reeta.
In 1900 John and Mary are living in the Supervisors District 2, Contra Costa.
